Homework & Test Study Tips
At Gardner Elementary it is our goal to make everything we do meaningful for the students. We work to ensure that real learning is taking place in the classroom, and we want our students to feel confident that the work they do will help prepare them for future learning experiences. We feel that the homework assigned should also be meaningful to the student. Our goal is to assign homework that has purpose, is efficient, allows for student choice, and is enjoyable. You may see some changes in the type and quantity of assignments brought home this school year as we work to make your child’s educational experience at Gardner the best it can be.
Reading: The reading will mostly be done in the classroom through activities and book projects. There may be times when your child needs to catch up to have their project due on time. In this case they may bring it home. Otherwise there will be tests to study for from time to time.
Math: This will include periodically studying for tests and quizzes. Students are also encouraged to master multiplication and division facts. We will do fact tests daily. They should practice nightly. We will mainly be doing the home link that goes along with the daily lesson in class. However, they may come home to be completed from time to time.
Spelling: Weekly spelling tests are given. The tests are given on Thursdays. The new list along with an optional activity for the following week will come home on Fridays.
Social Studies / Science: Students will need to study periodically for tests and quizzes. Ask to see the study guides! They will always have something to use for studying these subjects.
Please let me know if you have questions about homework at anytime.
* Other activities such as writing in a journal, playing dice or money games, and visiting the library are
good ways to enhance learning at home.
